Q: What is the bio-drum?
A: The Bio Drum is a patented drum that creates an ideal environment for composting

- ensures there is no excess moisture

- provides an ideal environment for aerobic bacteria to flourish and quickly break down organic material
Q: Is a heater required?
A: No, not in all cases, however if the location you are in drops to near freezing temperatures then yes it is recommended. If you do not wish to run the heated throughout the year there is a DP model available which allows you to have only the fan plugged in and plug the heater in only in the cooler months or when required.
The heater is primarily there to help with the evaporation and can assist in the composting process.
The Excel has a unique three chamber processing system including the patented Bio-drum. The exterior is made of fibreglass. The high gloss white finish ensures it fits in well with other bathroom fittings and, unlike with competing products where the vent pipe exits the top of the unit inside the bathroom, the Excel vent is unseen. It exits from the rear of the unit.
The Excel is superior to other self-contained toilets because it uses a rotating drum to mix and aerate, rather than just a mixing bar or rake as with competing products. The drum ensures optimum processing by providing the best composting conditions:

To accommodate the drum, the toilet is taller than a conventional toilet. An optional step is supplied. To reduce the apparent height of the toilet it can be installed in a 200mm cavity. There is a heater which further enhances the composting process and evaporates liquids. The 240 volt ventilation system ensures the system is odourless.
